Privacy notice
What we collect about you, why, who we share it with, and how to see or correct it. Written to be read, not just agreed to.
Last updated October 1, 2026.
About this website. Harborline Mutual is a fictional company and this site is a demonstration. Please do not enter real personal information anywhere on it.
1. What we collect
To quote, write and service insurance and to handle claims, we collect information about you and the people and property you insure:
- From you: names, addresses, dates of birth, contact details, driver's license numbers, details of your cars and home, and payment information.
- From your agent, if you buy through one.
- From others, with your permission or as the law allows: motor vehicle records, claims history databases shared among insurers, property inspection reports, and, for a claim, police reports, repair estimates and medical records.
- From your use of this website: the pages you visit and the device and browser you use, through cookies. See section 6.
We do not collect more than we need to write and service your policy, and we do not buy marketing lists.
2. How we use it
- To decide whether to offer coverage and at what price.
- To issue, bill, renew and change your policies.
- To investigate and pay claims, and to recover what we paid from whoever caused a loss.
- To detect and prevent fraud, which raises the price for every member.
- To send you notices about your policy and, if you agree, information about other Harborline coverage.
- To meet legal and regulatory requirements in California and Arizona.
3. Who we share it with
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with other companies for their own marketing. We share it only as needed to provide your insurance:
- Your agent.
- Companies that work for us under contract, such as repair shops, appraisers, printers, payment processors and the companies that run our systems. They may use it only to do that work.
- Other insurers, when a claim involves them.
- Reinsurers, auditors and our own advisers.
- Insurance regulators, law enforcement and courts, when the law requires it.
- Lenders, lienholders and landlords you have named on your policy.
4. Medical information
We collect medical information only for an injury claim, and we use it only to handle that claim. We do not use it to decide whether to insure you, and we never share it for marketing.
5. Seeing and correcting your information
You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, where it came from and who we have shared it with. You can ask us to correct anything that is wrong, and if we disagree, you can add a statement to your file that we will include whenever we share it.
If you live in California, state law also gives you the right to know what we collect, to ask us to delete information we do not need to keep, to correct it, and to limit how we use sensitive information. Some information we must keep by law, for example records of a claim, and we will tell you if that applies.
We will not treat you differently for using any of these rights.
To make a request, call our privacy office at (619) 555-0116, weekdays 8am to 5pm Pacific time, or write to the privacy office at the address in section 9. We will confirm who you are before we act, and reply within 30 days. An authorized agent can make a request for you with your signed permission.
6. Cookies and this website
Our website uses cookies to keep you signed in, remember your choices and see which pages are used, so we can improve them. We do not use cookies for advertising on other websites. You can block or delete cookies in your browser; some parts of the site, such as signing in, will not work without them.
7. How we protect it
We limit access to personal information to employees and contractors who need it for their work, train them on handling it, and protect our systems with physical, technical and administrative safeguards. If personal information is ever exposed, we will tell you as the law requires and explain what we are doing about it.
8. Children
Our website is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them online. We do hold information about young drivers and children in a household when a parent provides it to insure them.
