Ways to pay

Your account
Pay by bank account or card, see every bill and payment, and change your payment date. The quickest way for most people.
Automatic payments
We draw each installment from your bank account or charge your card on the due date. No installment fee, and no missed payments.
By phone
Call (619) 555-0133. The automated line takes payments any hour; a person answers weekdays 7am to 8pm Pacific time.
By mail
Send a check or money order to Harborline Mutual, P.O. Box 129400, San Diego, CA 92112-9400, with your policy number on it. Allow seven days for it to reach us.
Through your agent
Many agencies take payments in person. Ask yours.
Through your mortgage
If your lender pays your home insurance from an escrow account, we bill the lender directly once a year, and you will not get a bill from us.

Payment plans

Choose a plan when you buy the policy, and change it at renewal. Auto policies run six months and home, renters and umbrella policies run a year.

When payments are due

We send each bill about three weeks before its due date, by email if you have chosen paperless and by mail if not. The due date is printed at the top of the bill and in your account.

You can move your due date to any day from the 1st to the 28th of the month, to line it up with payday. Change it in your account or by calling billing. The first bill after a change may be a little higher or lower to cover the days in between.

If a payment is late

Life happens, and one late payment does not end a policy. Here is what does happen, in order:

  1. A few days after the due date we send a reminder by email and text, if you have given us a mobile number.
  2. If the bill is still unpaid, we mail a notice of cancellation. It gives a date at least ten days away. A late fee of $10 is added.
  3. If we receive the payment before the date on the notice, the policy carries on as if nothing happened, with no gap in coverage.
  4. If the date passes with nothing paid, the policy is canceled. Call us. In many cases we can reinstate it, sometimes with a short gap.

Having trouble paying? Call billing before the due date. We can often move the date, spread the amount over the remaining installments, or point out a discount you are missing. After a declared disaster in your area, we hold cancellations for nonpayment while you get back on your feet.

Refunds

If you cancel a policy, or a change lowers your premium, we refund the unused premium within 15 business days, to the account it came from or by check. There is no fee to cancel.
